Kellen's Wall Art

One big ongoing project that I have had for the past few years is my son's bedroom. He has his own taste of decorations that is similar to mine. It is quite funny actually. He likes vintage sport, and automobile memorabilia. So basically anything vintage and "boyish".

Gaudy Frames

My sister and I saw somes frames that we LOVED at a craft fair that were ridiculously priced. The ones that were this size were at least $100. Instead, we went to our favorite craft store and bought the supplies to do it ourselves. We were going for modest-enough-for-a-living-room but funky-enough-to-get-attention. I can't wait to play around with more, funkier ideas! Pretty different, right?

Instructions:
Grab that ugly frame that sits in the closet, or go buy an ugly frame on clearance. Spray paint it the "under tone" color. We chose black to ground the frame a little better. Use acrylic paint and a sponge brush to very loosly paint over the black spray paint. We mixed two different colors of paint to get the right color. Next, make a small arrangement of anything that you find interesting. We used different types of feathers, and a spray painted cross. Get creative and glue it on!

Total Damage: $37
Clearance Mirror - $20
Spray Paint - FREE (past project)
Acrylic Paint - $6
Stemmed Feathers - $6
Hat Feathers - $3
Cross - $2

Inexpensive Cake Plates

The next project is one that I have been working on for a few weeks. Cake plates. I was in need of some varied heights of cake plates but did not want to shell out the big bucks for them. Some of them can be really pricey, and I wanted 5 of them. It was out of the question. Just look at some of these... In order, these cakes plates are from: Macy's $58.00, Macy's $300.00, Dillards $129.00, and Dillards $149.00. Yikes! But they are soooo pretty... and basically exactly what I need....

So I gathered some supplies for a DIY project. In the end, my cake plates turned out very comparable and no where near those price tags! Watch in late May for an update on what the cake plates were used for!

Total damage:
5 brass candle sticks - $2.50
5 clear plates - $5.00
1 tube epoxy - 5.00
1 can silver spray paint - 2.50
