Kellen's Wall Art

One big ongoing project that I have had for the past few years is my son's bedroom. He has his own taste of decorations that is similar to mine. It is quite funny actually. He likes vintage sport, and automobile memorabilia. So basically anything vintage and "boyish".

Back to School: Taming the Breakfast Situation

Alright, on to the next item to tame. Does anyone else have the same problem with breakfast as me in the mornings? No matter how much earlier we wake up, there is never enough time for a nice breakfast. So, we go for breakfast foods that we can grab on the go. You would think that would be easy enough, right? Wrong. These are the problems with breakfast on school days... I often find Kellen climbing on the counter to get breakfast, if he is not on the counter it takes him a very long time to decide what he actually wants for breakfast, and sometimes if there is a set back in the morning (like when all the socks in the house feel "funny" on his feet) the few extra steps into the kitchen just seems like it takes too much time... and a few times last year it was just so chaotic in the morning that we forgot breakfast altogether because nobody was hungry and nothing reminded us. (When this happens, you are automatically taken out of the running for Mom of the Year by the way.) So, this isn't a huge project. It's just something that I hope saves a lot of stress in the morning.

A decorative bucket, a cloth napkin to kind of drape on the inside, and the breakfast foods. That is all you need. I found all items in my home already. Easy peesy. You can do this too, very very easily. On the bar, by the door to the garage, on a side table on the way out of the house, whatever it takes.

Why this works: Our breakfast bucket is right on the kitchen counter on our way to the garage. It's like breakfast is finding us! Also, my monkey (Kellen) keeps his feet on the ground with this method. And finally, there are only 3 (sort of) options for breakfast in our breakfast bucket. If the selection is limited then the process of elimination is a lot easier. In our bucket we have pop tarts, granola bars, and raisins. Please note: Kellen eats something with the raisins - like a piece of bread or a boost. Here's a close up...

How is everyone coming on their lists?

Your container of mom approved snacks is a great idea. Have you also tried a breakfast "station" like the one you made for your son to get dressed? Something like a bowl of cereal with plastic wrap over the top that has a ready to go cup of milk in the fridge?
